Is AI-generated code safe to deploy? Seven checks before you go live
AI-generated code is as safe as the checks it passes. AI tools write code that works, but they often leave keys in the code, pick outdated packages and publish files that should be private. Run the seven checks below on every release, ideally automatically, so a problem stops the release instead of reaching users.
The seven checks
- Keys and passwords in code. Search for API keys, tokens and database URLs. Move them to a secrets vault and rotate any key that was ever committed.
- Secrets exposed to the browser. Variables prefixed
VITE_orNEXT_PUBLIC_are public. Only truly public values belong there. - Vulnerable packages. Check every library and system package for known vulnerabilities and upgrade to the fixed version.
- Risky code patterns. Look for
eval, shell commands or SQL built from user input, raw HTML rendering, open redirects and certificate checks switched off. - Files that should never be public.
.envfiles, source maps,.gitfolders and backup files in the published build. - Authentication on every route. AI tools often protect the page but not the API behind it. Test API routes without signing in.
- A safe way back. Keep the previous version ready, so a bad release is one click from undone.
Automate it, or it will be skipped
Manual checklists fail on the busy day. On Nexovia, Zecurix Guard runs checks 1 to 5 on every release. Critical problems with a known fix stop the release, the live version keeps serving, and the report shows each finding with its fix, with secret values masked. Rollback is one click.
What a good report tells you
- Why the release stopped, in one sentence.
- The file and line, or the package and the version that fixes it.
- What to change, so a developer, or the AI tool, can fix it in one pass.
Questions
Is vibe coding safe for production apps?
It can be, if every release passes automatic security checks for keys, vulnerable packages, risky code and exposed files, and you can roll back in one step.
What is the most common security mistake in AI-generated apps?
API keys and passwords written into the code or exposed to the browser. Move them to a vault and rotate any key that was ever public.
Does Nexovia fix the code for me?
Nexovia finds the problem and tells you the exact fix; you or your AI tool apply it and push again.
